First of all, let me tell you who Hope is. She is my best friend. She is my baby. And she is my 12-year-old Yorkie. I got her when she was six months old. I named her after the symbol for brain tumors. The symbol of that type of cancer is a grey ribbon with the word HOPE stamped on it. I know all this because my loving soulmate passed away in 2012. And that is when I rescued my hope. Hope and I have had some amazing times together. All the walks in the park and the many times we went camping are all great memories.
A DAY AT THE PARK
We used to go to the park three days a week. They had a big area paved for people to walk and ride bikes on. To give Hope space to relieve herself, I would walk her around the dog park. Then we would make three laps around the walking trail before heading to the picnic area for lunch. We would go home and watch TV or should I say the TV watched us take a nap. She also loves our daily walk to the mailbox. Because she plays in the front yard while I would go check the mail. She likes to run around the front yard to get her saved-up energy out. For such a little dog she can run really fast.
HOPE AND I CAMPING
She loves to go to the lake and wade in the water. I will go to the campground for weeks at a time. Hope is a very good dog when we are riding in the truck because she knew that if she was in the truck that we were going to the lake. I think she is just like me a lot because she is always relaxed at the campground. She loved the water and I love fishing and relaxing by the lake with a good book and a glass of wine. And speaking of water, even though I lived alone for most of the 12 years, I still have to make sure, I close the bathroom door when I go to take my bath or shower. Because if I don’t, she will come in and jump in the water.
The funniest part of camping with Hope was when we would walk around the loop. She would always shy away from the dogs her size. But bark like crazy at the big dogs, then they would bark back and she would run behind me like she was hiding from them.
Hope is very shy around people, especially if the person is really loud. She doesn’t like anything loud, like music, a hairdryer, a vacuum cleaner or anything like that. She was very hyper until, back in October of 2023, she became blind in one eye. And within a month she lost sight in the other eye.
